The total live water stock across Mumbai's 7 reservoirs stood at 7,82,370 ML, equivalent to 54.05% of the city's total live storage capacity. Continuous rainfall across the catchment areas contributed to rising reservoir levels.

The city's lakes collectively provide drinking water to millions of residents throughout the year. The latest figures indicate a significant improvement in water availability compared with earlier stages of the monsoon season.

Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa and Middle Vaitarna Storage

Among the major reservoirs, Modak Sagar and Tansa reported storage levels above 80% of their respective capacities. Upper Vaitarna held 76,605 ML, equivalent to 33.74% of its useful content, while Middle Vaitarna stored 93,316 ML or 48.22% of capacity.

Middle Vaitarna recorded the highest daily water-level rise of 0.63 metres, reaching 266.39 metres. Together, these 4 reservoirs contained 4,01,000 ML of water, representing 57.73% of their combined live storage capacity.

Bhatsa, Vihar and Tulsi Lake Water Levels

Bhatsa, Mumbai's largest reservoir, held 3,45,626 ML of water, accounting for 48.20% of its useful storage capacity. Vihar and Tulsi lakes remained 100% full, with storage levels of 27,698 ML and 8,046 ML, respectively.

Vihar's water level stood at 80.38 metres, while Tulsi reached 139.20 metres after additional rainfall. These reservoirs have continued to benefit from sustained monsoon activity across the region.

Mumbai Rainfall Update and Reservoir Operations

Tulsi recorded the highest rainfall among all 7 reservoirs during the last 24 hours at 144 mm, taking seasonal rainfall to 2,449 mm. Bhandup Complex received 81 mm rainfall during the same period, with cumulative rainfall reaching 1,899 mm.

According to the report, Vihar Lake has been overflowing since July 7, 2026, at 9 PM, while Tulsi Lake has been overflowing since July 7, 2026, at 11:43 PM. The Middle Vaitarna WSCPO gate has remained closed since July 6, 2026, and water releases from Upper Vaitarna have remained suspended since July 6, 2026.
