Indian Air Force Pokhran Drone Showcase to Feature 1,000 Km-Range Unmanned Systems

The Indian Air Force is preparing a dedicated demonstration of indigenous unmanned technologies at the Pokhran firing ranges in the third week of September 2026, bringing defence companies and startups together to present systems under development for military applications, as per The Economic Times news report. 

The showcase will be attended by IAF leadership and will place particular emphasis on long-range unmanned platforms and swarm drone technologies. 

1,000 Km-Plus Attack Drones in Focus 

Among the systems expected at the event are one-way attack drones and long-range loitering munitions. 

The IAF is examining drones capable of travelling more than 1,000 km while transmitting live video feedback to their operators. Companies are also expected to demonstrate one-way attack platforms that have been extensively used in the Iran and Ukraine wars. 

Swarm and Electronic Warfare Systems 

Unmanned systems with swarm capabilities and ranges exceeding 300 km are also likely to feature at Pokhran. 

The showcase is expected to include expendable drones designed for surveillance and intelligence gathering. Another area of interest is electronic warfare, with the IAF examining platforms capable of tracking and eliminating electronic warfare emitters amid the widespread use of jamming and spoofing equipment on modern battlefields. 

Cargo UAVs Expand Mission Scope 

The demonstration will extend beyond combat applications to logistics. Cargo unmanned aerial vehicles are expected to showcase missions involving casualty evacuation, medical supply transportation and delivery of cargo to troops deployed at extreme altitudes. 

Defence Industry to Demonstrate Indigenous Systems 

Several defence companies and startups working on unmanned technologies are expected to participate, presenting a range of domestically developed systems to the Air Force leadership. 

The planned event therefore covers multiple unmanned applications, from long-range strike and surveillance to electronic warfare and high-altitude logistics.
