India and Saudi Arabia have expanded their bilateral engagement with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on water resources cooperation during Saudi Water Week in Jeddah.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Suhel Khan, India's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen AlFadley, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

Partnership in Water Resources

The MoU seeks to strengthen cooperation in water resources planning, sustainable water management, irrigation networks, capacity development, the exchange of best practices, and other related areas.

Describing the development, the Embassy of India in Riyadh said the agreement marks "a significant step in advancing the India-Saudi Arabia strategic partnership." Fahad Suri, Consul General of India, also attended the signing ceremony.

Discussions on Community Welfare

Separately, Abu Mathen George, India's Deputy Chief of Mission, and Y. Sabir, Counsellor, met Ahmed Abdulaziz Bin Salamah, Head of the Expatriate Affairs Division in Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Embassy, the discussions focused on "deepening ties on consular and community welfare" by strengthening bilateral cooperation and developing mechanisms related to the welfare of the Indian community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Bilateral Engagement in Riyadh

Earlier, Dr. Suhel Khan paid a farewell call on Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Riyadh.

The Ambassador thanked the Governor for the support extended during his tenure and for his continued care towards the Indian community in Saudi Arabia. The Embassy said both sides "exchanged views on the steadily growing bilateral relations between India and Saudi Arabia."
