India’s Gems and Jewellery Exports Rise 3.14% to $2.30 Billion in August 2026

In August 2026, India's gems and jewellery exports were $2.30 billion; against $2.23 billion in the same month last year. In dollar terms the increase was small, but it does differ for each product category.
Among segments that saw an uptick in exports for the month were gold jewellery and lab-grown diamonds. Natural diamonds, meanwhile, remained with lower export values.
Studded Gold Jewellery Sees Sharp Rise
Exports of studded gold jewellery reached $642.86 million in August 2026, against $425.10 million a year earlier. That was a 51.22% increase.
Plain gold jewellery moved in the opposite direction. Exports fell 23.90% to $356.97 million. Even so, total gold jewellery exports were higher by 11.81% at $999.83 million.
Lab-Grown Diamonds Gain Ground
Polished lab-grown diamond exports also picked up during August 2026. Shipments were valued at $125.17 million, 28.45% higher than a year earlier.
The April-August 2026, period tells a similar story. Exports stood at $533.67 million, while volumes increased 23.37% to 80.24 lakh carats.
Natural Diamond Exports Remain Under Pressure
Natural cut and polished diamond exports were down 4.93% in August 2026, at $924.51 million. For April-August 2026, exports declined 7.38% to $4.52 billion.
There was an unusual difference between value and volume during the 5-month period. Export volumes increased 6.75% to 67.34 lakh carats even though the value of shipments fell.
Imports of cut and polished diamonds increased as well, reaching $159.13 million in August 2026, up 41.42%.
Silver and Platinum Jewellery Add To Growth
Silver jewellery exports during April-August 2026, rose 35.57% to $594.86 million. Platinum jewellery exports increased 19.67% to $100.32 million.
Coloured gemstone exports were lower by 1.91% during the period, although August shipments were 34.38% higher.
Gold Prices Remain Elevated
Gold prices were considerably higher during April-August 2026. The average gold bar price stood at $4,433.89 per troy ounce, up 34.09% in dollar terms and 48% in rupee terms.
India’s overall gems and jewellery exports for April-August reached $11.47 billion, a 2.58% increase from the corresponding period last year.
