India's Domestic Air Passenger Traffic Sees 4.8% Decline in July 2026

In July 2026, India's domestic air passenger traffic experienced a 4.8% month-on-month decline, reducing to 120 lakh from June's 126.05 lakh passengers, as per The CNBC TV18 news report.
Nonetheless, January-July 2026 saw a 0.64% year-on-year rise, amounting to 984.03 lakh passengers.
Airlines Market Share in July 2026
IndiGo maintained its leadership in the domestic market, transporting 80.82 lakh passengers, making up 67.4% of the total market share.
The Air India Group, including Air India and Air India Express, served 28.75 lakh passengers, holding a 24% share of the market. Akasa Air claimed a 5.5% share, while SpiceJet accounted for 1.6%.
On-time Performance of Major Airlines
IndiGo achieved the highest on-time performance among key domestic airlines, with a punctuality rate of 91.2% across 10 major airports in July 2026.
Akasa Air was close behind at 90.8%, while the Air India Group recorded 88.5% in on-time performance.
The airports included in this assessment were Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Guwahati, and Lucknow.
A flight was considered delayed if it departed more than 15 minutes past its scheduled time.

Flight Cancellations and Delays
In July 2026, the overall cancellation rate for scheduled domestic flights stood at 0.62%. Technical issues were responsible for 39.9% of these cancellations, while operational reasons and weather accounted for 27.4% and 22.7%, respectively. Additionally, 1.26% of flights experienced delays exceeding 2 hours.
