The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the procurement of BrahMos fire control systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

Procurement Under Buy (Indian-IDDM)

The contract has been placed under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, supporting the government’s focus on domestic defence procurement.

The deal is part of broader plans to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imported military equipment.

BrahMos System for Indian Navy

The BrahMos system installed on various frontline warships serves as the Indian Navy’s primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime strike operations.

According to the ministry, the weapon system can engage both land and sea targets at extended ranges, with pinpoint accuracy and supersonic speeds.

68% Indigenous Content

The project comes with a minimum indigenous content requirement of 68%. The ministry said this is expected to encourage participation from various Indian industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as part of the procurement process.

Employment Generation Over Three Years

The contract is also expected to generate employment over a period of three years. Greater participation from Indian companies and MSMEs is expected to support activity across the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem.

Focus On Maritime Security

The procurement is expected to strengthen India’s maritime security architecture and defence capabilities. The ministry described the contract as a critical step in the ongoing efforts to indigenise advanced military technology.
