The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has stated that India has adequate inventories of crude oil, LPG and LNG, with supplies tied up for around 2 months, as per ANI news report.

The ministry also said public sector oil marketing companies are maintaining uninterrupted fuel availability across the country while refineries continue to operate at maximum capacity.

Fuel Supplies Remain Stable

Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said, “Supplies of crude, petrol, diesel, LPG and natural gas remain stable. Our refineries are operating at maximum capacity.”

She added that some retail outlets have witnessed higher sales, but public sector oil marketing companies are ensuring smooth distribution of fuel across the country.

Providing an update on inventories, Sharma said, “We have the stocks, rolling stocks tied up for around 2 months.”

LPG Distribution and PNG Expansion

The ministry shared operational data showing that around 1.40 crore domestic LPG cylinder bookings were received over the last 3 days, while approximately 1.49 crore cylinders were delivered during the same period.

It also reported sales of about 22,340 tonnes of commercial LPG and around 1.91 lakh units of 5 kg LPG cylinders.

Since March, nearly 9.42 lakh PNG connections have been gasified, infrastructure has been created for 3.12 lakh PNG connections, and around 9.44 lakh new consumers have been registered.

Government Advises Consumers to Avoid Panic Buying

The government has written to states and Union Territories requesting local authorities to work with city gas distribution entities to encourage migration from LPG to PNG wherever such facilities are available.

Sharma also appealed to consumers to avoid unnecessary purchases, saying, “Please purchase petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders only according to your actual requirements and avoid rumours. Wherever possible, use alternative modes and conserve energy.”

When asked about future fuel prices, she said, “Regarding the price, what will be the future? I will not be able to comment on that right now.”
