India attracted $11.8 billion in renewable energy investments during the first half of 2025, the second-highest half-year record so far, according to BloombergNEF’s latest report.

Though slightly lower than the same period in 2024, the figures highlight the continued strength and investor interest in clean energy projects.

Solar Dominates New Investments

The report shows that utility-scale solar remains the star performer, accounting for 77% of all new investments in H1 2025. This growth builds on India’s success in clean power auctions, where the country awarded 59 GW of capacity in 2024, more than double the previous year.

These auctions are expected to fuel solar expansion and capacity growth through 2030.

Wind Sector Sees Mixed Trends

Investment in wind power fell by half compared to H1 2024, which had seen record activity of $4.2 billion in onshore wind. However, it was 28% higher than H2 2024, showing recovery signs.

The outlook for wind remains positive as developers are combining wind, solar, and storage projects to meet energy supply commitments under complex auction designs.

Auctions Driving Growth

India’s clean power auctions are proving critical by offering revenue certainty to developers, enabling larger project sizes and attracting more financing.

Conclusion

India’s renewable energy sector continues to shine, with solar leading investments and wind showing recovery signs. Clean energy auctions remain the key growth driver, giving investors confidence and ensuring India stays on track toward its 2030 renewable goals.
