As per news reports, the electric 2-wheeler landscape in India witnessed a fierce shift in August 2025 as Ather Energy climbed to the number 2 position in market share, overtaking Bajaj Auto. With robust expansion and new launches, Ather's aggressive strategy is paying off in an industry where the sub- ₹1,00,000 segment is gaining strong traction.
According to data from the VAHAN portal, Ather secured a 17% market share from August 1 to August 21, 2025, pushing Bajaj Auto down to number 5 with 12%. TVS Motor Company retained its top position with a strong 25% share, while Ola Electric held steady at number 3 with 16%.
Ather’s rise has been driven by strategic expansion beyond its original South Indian markets into regions like Maharashtra and Gujarat, with its popular model Rizta attracting widespread adoption.
Hero MotoCorp made its debut in the top 5 EV 2-wheeler list, thanks to the launch of the affordable Vida VX2, priced at around ₹82,000. The company introduced a Battery-As-A-Service (BAAS) model, reducing the initial cost to ₹57,000 for buyers opting out of an upfront battery purchase. This flexible pricing spurred demand, elevating Hero to number 4 in market position.

Bajaj Auto's decline from its steady 20% market presence to 12% surprised many in the segment. However, with the Ganpati festival beginning on August 27, 2025, in Maharashtra, the brand could witness a sales uptick in the final days of August. The current market remains highly competitive, with monthly electric 2-wheeler sales averaging close to 1,00,000 units.
Ather currently operates 446 stores and aims to increase this count to 700 by the end of FY26. The introduction of new pricing models and feature-rich products in the sub ₹1,00,000 bracket is drawing more first time EV buyers. Each company is refining its strategy through better geographic penetration, product design, and consumer centric initiatives.
The electric 2-wheeler space is evolving rapidly, with Ather’s ascent reflecting successful product and expansion strategies. TVS holds firm as the market leader, while Bajaj experiences a temporary fall. New launches like Hero's VX2 are reshaping segment dynamics.
