The Government of Gujarat has entered into a formal arrangement with Starlink to expand high-speed internet access in areas with limited telecom infrastructure.

Scope of the Agreement and Connectivity Plans

The state government said it has signed a Letter of Intent(LoI) with Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX founded by Elon Musk, to enable satellite-based internet connectivity across remote, border, tribal and underserved parts of Gujarat.

As per news reports, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, “Happy to share that the Government of Gujarat has exchanged a LoI with Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, to strengthen digital connectivity across the state.”

Patel added, “This LoI will enable high-speed satellite-based internet connectivity in remote, border, tribal and underserved areas with limited telecom infrastructure, accelerating Gujarat’s digital connectivity mission and strategic digital initiatives.”

Impact on Public Services and Implementation Mechanism

According to the state government, the initiative is expected to improve the delivery of public services and strengthen outreach in districts with poor connectivity.

Patel said, “The initiative will ensure reliable digital service delivery in aspirational and tribal districts, strengthen education and healthcare outreach, enhance disaster preparedness and security systems, and improve access to government services for citizens.”

He further said a joint working group comprising representatives from the Government of Gujarat and Starlink will be set up to oversee implementation.

Similar Initiative in Goa

A similar approach was taken last month when the Government of Goa signed an MoU with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited.

The agreement focuses on digital connectivity, disaster response systems and governance services, including satellite broadband deployment in areas with limited terrestrial networks.
