The Gujarat government has sanctioned projects worth ₹1,185 crore to revamp road infrastructure in the Surat Economic Region. This strategic move aims to boost connectivity and foster economic growth across South Gujarat.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved the initiative, which encompasses 24 road projects covering a total of 383 kms. These projects will span various districts, including Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and Dang. The primary objective is to fortify links within these districts to bolster logistics and industry connectivity.
The investments align with the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation’s regional economic master plans, aimed at facilitating balanced development via infrastructure expansion. By improving road networks, the government anticipates a significant enhancement in logistics efficiency, which is crucial for connecting industrial zones and Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation areas.
The Surat Economic Region is home to key industries such as textiles, chemicals, petrochemicals and diamonds. The road upgrades are expected to streamline transport and distribution channels for these sectors, thereby enhancing economic output. Industrial clusters like Kadod, Kadodara, Jolva, Mangrol, Kosamba and Tadkeshwar will also benefit from enhanced access.
Apart from industrial benefits, the upgraded roads will foster better transportation of agricultural produce, supporting the agricultural sector’s growth. Additionally, enhanced connectivity will promote tourism by providing better access to South Gujarat’s scenic spots such as Saputara and Wilson Hills as well as multiple religious sites.

The ₹1,185 crore road upgrade initiative in the Surat Economic Region exemplifies the Gujarat government’s commitment to improving infrastructure. By enhancing connectivity across key districts and industrial hubs, the initiative is positioned to catalyse economic and social development across South Gujarat.
