The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed the retail prices of 39 drug formulations under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 2013, as per a CNBC TV18 report.
The notification was issued by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, on 8 July 2026. The order applies to new drug formulations and sets the maximum retail price that manufacturers can charge.
The list includes medicines used for hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, bacterial infections and HIV treatment. The notification also covers multiple other medicines supplied as tablets, capsules, and injections.
Few among the formulations notified are Tenecteplase (TNK-TPA) Injection, Combikit Darunavir, Ritonavir and Dolutegravir Tablets, Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate Dispersible Tablets, and combinations containing Aspirin, Atorvastatin, Telmisartan, Amlodipine, Metoprolol Succinate and Ezetimibe.
The order provides the strength, dosage form, manufacturer or marketing company and retail price for each product. For example, Amlodipine, Telmisartan and Metoprolol Succinate Extended Release Tablets have been priced at ₹12.03 per tablet.
Two formulations of Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate Dispersible Tablets have been fixed at ₹27.31and ₹19.53 per tablet. Aspirin Gastro-Resistant and Atorvastatin Capsules have been capped at ₹3.67 per capsule, while Atorvastatin and Ezetimibe Tablets have been priced at ₹31.73 and ₹21.36 per tablet, depending on the strength.
According to the notification, manufacturers of these formulations are required to fix the retail price at or below the level specified by the NPPA.
The ministry also said that any existing manufacturer launching the same new drug within 12 months from the publication of the notification in the Official Gazette will be allowed to market it only if the retail price does not exceed the notified ceiling.
The latest order comes after the NPPA fixed retail prices for 42 drug formulations in May 2026 under the DPCO, 2013. The authority periodically notifies retail prices for new formulations after examining applications submitted by manufacturers.
