Indian Railways has approved the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0, its indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, on key routes under the Delhi Division of Northern Railway, as per a PIB report.
The project, approved at a cost of ₹206 crore, will cover 680 route kilometres (RKm) across the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections, including feeder branch lines.
The Ministry of Railways said the project has been sanctioned as part of Indian Railways' nationwide rollout of the Kavach system across high-density and strategically important routes.
The latest approval covers critical railway sections under the Delhi Division of Northern Railway, strengthening the network's safety infrastructure.
Developed in India, Kavach is an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system that acts as an additional safety layer during train operations.
It is designed to prevent accidents caused by trains overshooting signals, continuously supervises train movement and intervenes automatically whenever a potentially unsafe situation is detected.
Beyond enhancing safety, Kavach also helps improve operational efficiency by enabling trains to safely run at their authorised speeds.
The technology supports uninterrupted train movement even during low-visibility conditions such as dense fog, reducing operational disruptions while improving service reliability.
Indian Railways has approved a ₹206 crore project to deploy Kavach Version 4.0 across 680 route kilometres in the Delhi Division of Northern Railway. The indigenous train protection system is expected to strengthen rail safety, improve operational efficiency and support more reliable passenger and freight train operations.
