Electric passenger vehicle retail sales saw a significant rise in July 2025, increasing by 93% compared to July 2024, as per the FADA report. Total registrations reached 15,528 units, up from 8,037 units last year, as reported by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).

Tata Motors Continues to Lead

Tata Motors maintained its position as the leader in the electric passenger vehicle market with 6,047 units sold in July 2025. This marked a 19% increase from 5,100 units sold in July 2024. They continue to drive growth in the sector, capturing a major share of the market.

Decline in Electric 2-Wheeler Sales

Electric 2-wheeler sales dropped by 4% in July 2025, with 102,973 units registered compared to 107,655 units in the same month last year. TVS Motor Company led the segment with 22,256 units, a 13% increase over July 2024. Despite the overall decline, TVS saw continued growth in its sales.

Growth in Electric 3-Wheelers and Commercial Vehicles

The electric 3-wheeler market grew by 9% in July 2025, with 69,146 units sold compared to 63,675 units last year. Mahindra Group led this segment with 9,766 units, reflecting a 40% increase from the previous year. In the commercial vehicle category, sales rose by 52%, with 1,244 units sold. Tata Motors was the leader in this segment as well, with 333 units sold.

Conclusion 

The increase in sales across various EV categories shows that electric vehicles are becoming more popular in India. The market is likely to continue growing, supported by government policies, easier financing options, and expanding charging infrastructure. As the festive season approaches, further growth in EV sales could be seen.
