The Defence Research & Development Organisation and the Directorate General of Armaments of France have formalised a technical agreement aimed at deepening collaboration in defence research and development.

The agreement was signed at DRDO Bhawan by Samir V Kamat, Secretary of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, and Lt Gen Gael Diaz de Tuesta, National Armaments Director of France, marking a fresh phase of cooperation between the two countries in emerging defence technologies.

Scope of Collaboration and Technology Sharing

The agreement establishes a structured framework for joint work, covering research projects, training engagements, testing activities, and the exchange of technical information. It also provides for the organisation of workshops and seminars to strengthen skills and knowledge in defence R&D. Both nations will have access to technology, equipment and know-how shared under the partnership.

Cooperation will take place across several priority domains, including aeronautical platforms, unmanned systems, advanced materials, cyber security, artificial intelligence, space, navigation, advanced propulsion, sensors, quantum technologies and underwater systems, alongside additional areas identified by both sides.

Strategic Intent and Expected Outcomes

The partnership is positioned as a strategic effort to combine the strengths and expertise of India and France to address future defence challenges. Officials from both nations expressed confidence that the enhanced collaboration will support national security objectives while contributing to global progress in defence technologies.

The agreement is expected to pave the way for long-term research initiatives and innovation-led developments across vital defence sectors.
