The United States has approved two key military sales to India, which include precision-guided Excalibur projectiles and advanced Javelin anti-tank missile systems. Totalling around $93 million, the deal aims to reinforce the defence relations between both nations and support broader strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
As per the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), India will procure up to 216 M982A1 Excalibur projectiles and related supporting equipment valued at approximately $47.1 million. The contract also includes non-major defence equipment such as Portable Electronic Fire Control Systems (PEFCS), primers, propellants, and technical assistance. RTX Corporation based in Arlington, VA has been identified as the primary contractor.
This sale will enhance India's precision-strike capabilities at brigade level, enabling stronger responses to current and foreseeable threats. India is expected to integrate the systems effectively within its existing military framework.
The 2nd part of the agreement includes 100 FGM-148 Javelin rounds and 25 Command Launch Units (CLU), either Block 1 or the lightweight version (LwCLU), totalling $45.7 million. The deal also features simulators, manuals, battery coolant units, training, lifecycle support, and system integration services.
This provision is intended to boost India's homeland defence and regional deterrence. The included equipment and services will ensure operational readiness and sustainability of the missile systems.

The United States reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing India’s defence capacity in line with broader Indo-Pacific stability initiatives. By facilitating this sale, the US supports a regionally significant partner amidst growing security dynamics and evolving threats in South Asia.
The transaction is not expected to disrupt regional military balance but will elevate India’s ability to address precision and strategic defence challenges.
The approval of this $93 million military equipment package reflects deepening strategic defence ties between the US and India. Both Excalibur projectiles and Javelin missile systems offer enhanced precision and deterrence value to the Indian Armed Forces without disturbing the military balance in the region.
