The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended the deadline for its SUNIYO 2.0 property tax scheme by three months. Taxpayers now have until December 31, 2026, to pay the required property tax and qualify for the waiver. The earlier deadline was September 30, 2026.

Six Years of Tax Payments Required

Under the Sampattikar Niptaan Yojana 2.0, property owners must pay the principal tax due for 2025-26 and the five preceding financial years, from 2020-21 to 2024-25, as per news reports.

The scheme waives 100% of interest and penalties on these six years once the required principal tax is paid. Property tax dues from periods before 2020-21, including principal tax, interest and penalties, are also waived.

The scheme covers residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional properties under the MCD. It applies to tax assessments calculated using either the rateable value method or the unit area method.

Who Can Apply?

The scheme covers property owners who have never paid municipal tax, missed payments or paid less than the amount due.

Taxpayers with pending property tax cases, those facing attachment of bank accounts or property, and those whose tax cheques were dishonoured can also apply.

The property must fall within the MCD's jurisdiction. Properties governed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) are not covered under this scheme.

How to Make the Payment?

Registered taxpayers can log in to the MCD property tax portal using their registered mobile number, email ID, or Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC). They must check their property details, file the Self-Assessed Property Tax Return (SAPTR) and pay the principal tax for all six financial years.

Unregistered taxpayers must register on the civic body's citizen registration portal and obtain a UPIC if they do not already have one. The code is a mandatory 15-character alphanumeric identifier used for property tax payments.

After payment, the portal issues a tax receipt and waiver certificate. Taxpayers should retain both documents.

Deadline and Assistance

The last date to complete the payment under SUNIYO 2.0 is December 31, 2026. For help with registration, property records, or payment, taxpayers can contact the MCD helpline at 7065064988.
