The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has addressed misinformation circulating on social media regarding toll charges applied to 2-wheelers. As clarified, no toll fee is being levied from 2-wheelers at any Toll Plaza across National Highways or National Expressways in India.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially stated that 2-wheelers are exempt from paying any kind of toll fee across all Toll Plazas on National Highways and Expressways. This clarification was necessary due to recent false claims circulating online, creating confusion among commuters.
According to the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, there is neither any existing rule nor any upcoming proposal to impose toll charges specifically on 2-wheelers.
The user fee collection under the 2008 rules applies only to motor vehicles with 4 or more wheels. This includes different classifications such as Cars, Jeeps, Vans, Light Motor Vehicles, Light Commercial Vehicles, Mini Buses, Trucks, Buses, Heavy Construction Machinery (HCM), Earth Moving Equipment (EME), Multi-Axle Vehicles (3 to 6 axles), and Oversized Vehicles (with 7 or more axles). The current framework ensures 2-wheelers are exempt from any such payments at both manned and unmanned toll booths.

The government has reiterated that there is no consideration to change the current toll policy concerning 2-wheelers. Road users with 2-wheelers can continue uninterrupted access through National and Expressway toll zones without any financial burden, maintaining affordability and ease of travel for everyday riders.
The clarification from NHAI reassures road users that 2-wheelers remain exempt from toll charges across India's National Highways. The spreading of fake news regarding toll for 2-wheelers has been addressed and dismissed by the Ministry to eliminate any public confusion.
