Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced 4G mobile services in Delhi through a soft launch, as per news reports. The rollout allows users in the city to access data and voice services using BSNL SIMs on compatible handsets.

Access Through Partner Network

The network has been enabled using a partner’s access arrangement that provides last-mile radio coverage.

As per news reports, the company stated, "The Delhi soft launch is delivered as a 4G-as-a-service through a partner's network access arrangement that provides last-mile radio coverage on compatible 4G devices, with BSNL SIMs. This approach complements BSNL's nationwide 4G build under its indigenous rollout programme.”

SIM and Onboarding Process

Customers can obtain new BSNL SIM cards and complete eKYC requirements at BSNL and MTNL customer service centres, along with authorised retail outlets. Once the process is complete, users will be able to access 4G services directly.

As per reports, BSNL stated that the “4G-as-a-service” model has been adopted to ensure instant availability in Delhi. The company said this complements its nationwide rollout, which is based on indigenous technology and ongoing network expansion.

Last year, BSNL carried out a large-scale rollout of 4G services across India. The project involved an investment of around ₹25,000 crore. As part of the expansion, the operator installed approximately 1 lakh mobile towers to support the network.

Role of Technology Partners

A majority share of the ₹25,000 crore project for telecom equipment supply was awarded to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and a consortium led by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), as per reports. These partners are responsible for providing the equipment required for BSNL’s 4G services.

Future Expansion Plans

As per reports, BSNL has also outlined plans to invest nearly ₹47,000 crore for further expansion of its telecom infrastructure. The upcoming investments are aimed at strengthening the company’s network and improving service coverage in different regions.

Conclusion
