The Odisha Assembly has approved a major salary hike for its legislators, tripling the monthly pay from ₹1,11,000 to ₹3,45,000.

Odisha Assembly Approves Salary Revision to ₹3,45,000 Per Month for MLAs

Four amendment bills passed in the Odisha Assembly have led to a significant pay revision for sitting MLAs. The newly approved monthly package is ₹3,45,000, which includes multiple allowances in addition to the basic salary.

This move received unanimous support from all parties. Since 2007, MLAs had raised concerns over stagnating pay with rising responsibilities and inflation.

Components of the Revised MLA Salary Package

Under the updated structure, each MLA will receive ₹90,000 as basic salary. The additional allowances are as follows:

  • ₹75,000 as constituency/secretarial allowance
  • ₹50,000 as conveyance allowance
  • ₹10,000 for books, journals, and periodicals
  • ₹20,000 as electricity allowance
  • ₹50,000 as fixed travelling allowance
  • ₹35,000 as medical allowance
  • ₹15,000 as telephone allowance

The collective monthly earnings bring the total to ₹3,45,000 for each legislator.
