Crude Oil prices extended their gains on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as concerns over a prolonged conflict in the Middle East increased the risk of supply disruptions, as per news reports. Markets remained focused on rising tensions involving the United States and Iran, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global crude shipments.

Brent crude futures rose 34 cents, or 0.35%, to $97.34 a barrel by 0000 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $92.63 a barrel, up $1.15, or 1.26%.

Strait of Hormuz Tensions Support Oil Prices

Brent crude had already climbed to its highest level since July 24, 2026, in the previous session as traders added a higher risk premium to oil prices. Concerns have intensified around the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of global crude shipments passes.

Iran warned on Monday that energy infrastructure across the Gulf, including U.S. oil and gas interests, could be vulnerable to further attacks. The warning followed a series of strikes over the weekend, with no clear signs of a diplomatic breakthrough.

US-Iran Strikes Raise Supply Disruption Concerns

U.S. forces struck three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, including one near Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub, according to U.S. Central Command. The attacks came after strikes by Iran's Revolutionary Guards against U.S. warships operating in the region.

The latest developments have increased concerns that military action could continue for an extended period, putting pressure on crude supplies from the Persian Gulf. Any disruption to shipments through the Strait of Hormuz could have wider implications for global oil markets.

Oil Market Outlook

With tensions continuing to escalate and the risk of further military action remaining, oil prices are likely to remain sensitive to developments across the Middle East. Traders will closely watch any changes affecting crude production, exports and shipping routes in the region.

Conclusion

Oil prices moved higher as rising US-Iran tensions increased concerns over prolonged supply disruptions. With the Strait of Hormuz remaining a key focus for the market, further developments in the conflict could continue to influence crude prices.
