Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking Bharat Electronics Limited has signed a significant contract with the Ministry of Defence valued at ₹1,640 crore for the supply of Air Defence Fire Control Radars to the Indian Army. This major defence order strengthens India's indigenous manufacturing capabilities in critical air defence systems.
The contract worth ₹1,640 crore (excluding taxes) involves the supply of indigenous Air Defence Fire Control Radars designed by DRDO and manufactured by BEL. These advanced radar systems provide effective defence against air threats during day and night under all weather conditions. The Atulya radars feature inbuilt Electronic Counter Measure capabilities and are used for surveillance, acquisition, tracking of air targets and control operations.
The Air Defence Fire Control Radar (ADFCR) Atulya system serves as an effective point defence mechanism against all air threats, including fighter aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs at short and very short ranges. These state-of-the-art indigenous radars enhance the Indian Army's capability to counter modern aerial threats with advanced surveillance and tracking technologies.
This contract represents another milestone in India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and Make in India programme, showcasing indigenous design and manufacturing capabilities in the defence sector. The order strengthens BEL's position as a leading defence electronics manufacturer and contributes to reducing dependence on foreign defence equipment imports.

The latest ₹1,640 crore order adds to BEL's growing order book, following recent contracts including ₹585 crore for defence equipment in June, bringing the company's total June orders to nearly ₹3,500 crore. BEL has previously secured multiple significant defence contracts, including orders for Medium Power Radar systems and Electronic Warfare Systems, demonstrating consistent growth in defence procurement.
