Afcons Infrastructure has achieved a major milestone in the Delhi Metro Phase IV project by completing the longest tunnelling drive on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor. The breakthrough was achieved between the Tughlakabad Airforce Launching Shaft and Maa Anandmayee Marg Station.

Senior officials from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), including Director of Projects and Planning Rajiv Dhankher, were present to mark the occasion.

Delhi Metro Phase IV Tunneling

The DC-07 package, under which this tunnel was constructed, covers three underground stations: Maa Anandmayee Marg Station, Tughlakabad Railway Colony Station, and Tughlakabad Station. It includes a total of 11.26 km of tunnelling, a 223-meter ramp, and a 119-meter cut-and-cover section. This package is part of Line-10 of the Delhi Metro Phase IV, connecting Aerocity to Tughlakabad over a total route length of 23.62 km.

A 105-meter-long Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was deployed to construct the new tunnel, which lies at an average depth of 16 meters. Approximately 1,894 rings, each with an inner diameter of 5.8 meters, were installed. Two parallel circular tunnels are being built for up-and-down train movement. The second parallel tunnel’s breakthrough is expected by January 2025, marking another step in the expansion of the Delhi Metro network.

Commenting on this significant development, the Managing Director of Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, S Paramasivan, said, “Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) AMRIT successfully completed 2.65 km of boring through mixed soil and hard rock strata today. It is the longest tunnelling drive in phase-IV of the Delhi Metro. Frequent cutter replacements were required to bore through the hard rock. The tunnel drive alignment was meticulously planned to avoid passing beneath heritage structures adjacent to Mehrauli Badarpur Road.”

On December 6, 2024, Afcons Infrastructure share price opened at ₹530.05, touching the day’s high at ₹539.95, as of 9:59 AM on the NSE.
