In a significant development for India’s electronics and semiconductor landscape, Tata Electronics has partnered with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Defence. The 2 companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Mumbai on 5 June to jointly work on semiconductor and electronics solutions, in line with India’s push for self-reliance in advanced technologies.
The MoU outlines joint efforts in semiconductor fabrication (Fab), Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) and chip design services. Tata Electronics will leverage its expertise in these areas to support BEL’s current and future product requirements. The collaboration will cover key components including microcontrollers (MCUs), systems-on-chip (SoCs), monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), and other processors.
By combining their respective strengths, both companies aim to create end-to-end solutions to serve the domestic market effectively. Tata Electronics and BEL will also share technical knowledge, best practices, and manpower resources to boost innovation and manufacturing capabilities within India.
The agreement comes at a strategically significant time for BEL. Just a day prior, the company announced major orders worth ₹2,323 crore from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) for missile systems’ base and depot spares on Indian naval ships. Additionally, on 4 June, BEL disclosed fresh orders amounting to ₹537 crore, adding to the contracts announced on 16 May. This MoU with Tata Electronics aligns well with BEL’s expanding order book and technological roadmap.

The collaboration between Tata Electronics and BEL marks a crucial step in India’s journey towards semiconductor self-sufficiency. With shared expertise and strategic alignment, the partnership is poised to play a vital role in strengthening the country’s defence and electronics infrastructure.
