Bajaj Finance share price declined nearly 6% during intraday trading on Friday, August 7, 2026, making it one of the biggest losers on the Sensex. The sharp fall wiped out over ₹33,000 crore from the company's market capitalisation within a few hours.

The decline also affected the broader financial sector, with several NBFC stocks, including Bajaj Finserv, Tata Capital, Poonawalla Fincorp and Edelweiss Financial Services, trading lower during the session.

Why Did Bajaj Finance Share Price Decline?

The selling pressure followed the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) draft guidelines for Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs).

Under the proposed rules, NBFCs would be allowed to offer only term loans and would not be permitted to provide revolving credit products, unless they are authorised to issue credit cards.

A term loan is a loan with a fixed amount and a predetermined repayment schedule. Once the borrower repays the loan, the credit limit cannot be restored or reused, unlike revolving credit facilities.

Bajaj Finance's Q1 FY27 Performance

Despite the fall in its share price, Bajaj Finance reported a healthy financial performance for the quarter ended June 2026.

Key highlights include:

  • Net profit increased 27% year-on-year to ₹5,986 crore.
  • Net Interest Income (NII) grew by 23%.
  • Assets Under Management (AUM) rose 24% to ₹5.47 lakh crore.
  • New loan bookings increased by 20%.
  • Asset quality improved, with Gross NPA at 0.96% and Net NPA at 0.39%.
  • The company maintained a strong Capital Adequacy Ratio (CRAR) of 20.9%.
