Websol Energy System Limited has received formal approval from the Andhra Pradesh government for its proposed 4 GW greenfield solar cell and module manufacturing facility, marking a significant expansion in India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem, as per exchange filings.
The new plant will be set up at the MPSEZ industrial zone in Naidupeta, Tirupati district, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board on November 15, 2025.
The project will include both 4 GW of solar cell capacity and 4 GW of solar module capacity, creating one of the largest integrated photovoltaic manufacturing units in the country. As part of the project, Websol will also develop a 100 MW captive solar power plant to ensure reliable renewable power supply and improve cost efficiency for operations.
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a comprehensive incentive package for the project, including land allotment, fixed capital investment subsidy, reimbursement of power tariffs, exemption from electricity duty, subsidy on industrial water charges and waiver of stamp duty and registration charges.
These incentives significantly improve the economics of the project and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a manufacturing hub for renewable energy.
Commenting on the approval, Sohan Lal Agarwal, Managing Director of Websol Energy System Limited, said, “As India advances its renewable energy ambitions alongside the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the approval received from the Government of Andhra Pradesh allows Websol to make a meaningful and exciting contribution with its own expansion plans.
The supportive industrial ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh provides a strong manufacturing platform for executing our 4 GW solar cell and 4 GW solar module growth strategy. We look forward to keeping our stakeholders updated on the developments of this expansion plan.”
