The auction was conducted by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, as part of its ongoing process to allocate identified critical mineral blocks through competitive bidding. The block forms part of a set of mineral assets offered in the current tranche.
The company received a letter dated December 23, 2025, confirming its status as the successful bidder. The letter was received on December 26, 2025, after Vedanta completed the statutory requirements prescribed under the auction process.
The confirmation marked the conclusion of the bidding and compliance stages for this block.
The Depo Graphite–Vanadium Block was auctioned under Tranche IV of the Critical Mineral Auctions programme. This tranche is part of a phased approach adopted by the Ministry of Mines to auction mineral blocks considered important for industrial use.
Each tranche includes multiple blocks, with bidders selected based on eligibility conditions and bid terms defined in the tender documents.
The Critical Mineral Auctions initiative is aimed at improving access to minerals that have limited domestic availability and growing demand. Graphite and vanadium are used in sectors such as energy storage, steelmaking, and specialised manufacturing.
The government has identified such minerals as important for long-term supply planning and has brought them under a structured auction framework.
At present, no information has been disclosed regarding the size of the block, estimated reserves, or timelines for development and production.
