
Vedanta Oil and Gas Limited (VOGL) has received demand letters from the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), Government of India, in relation to 4 oil and gas blocks awarded under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP), as per the exchange filings.
The authority has declined to grant a further extension for the blocks and has sought payment of liquidated damages, along with applicable interest.
The dispute relates to four OALP blocks for which the company had sought an extension.
According to the filing, DGH has issued demand letters seeking liquidated damages, with the aggregate claim amounting to around $35 million, excluding applicable interest.
Vedanta Oil and Gas said it believes it has valid grounds in the matter and is pursuing the legal and other remedies available to it.
The company has also requested DGH to refer the dispute to the Committee for External Eminent Experts (CEEE) for resolution through conciliation or mediation.
The company said any financial impact arising from the matter will be assessed based on the outcome of the proceedings.
It added that the accounting treatment, if required, will be undertaken in accordance with the applicable accounting standards.
Vedanta Oil and Gas Limited, formerly Malco Energy Limited, is the oil and gas business of the Vedanta Group.
The company is engaged in the exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas, with operations across multiple onshore oil and gas blocks in India.
