Vedanta Aluminium Share Price Surges; Launches Advanced Metals for Automotive Industry

Vedanta Aluminium has introduced two new products under its Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) range for the automotive sector, as per an exchange filing dated August 20, 2026.
The Copper-Doped Alloy and Vedanta Foundry Alloy (VFA) were unveiled at AutoEdge 2026 in New Delhi on 20 August. The VFA has been developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi.
The announcement was made in the second edition of AutoEdge, which brought together automotive companies, component manufacturers, and other industry participants.
Copper-Doped Alloy for Engine Parts
The Copper-Doped Alloy is intended for automotive parts that operate at higher temperatures. The use of copper is aimed at improving wear resistance and durability in such applications.
Vedanta Aluminium said the alloy can be used in engine, transmission and powertrain components. These areas form part of the company’s wider automotive materials business.
VFA Covers Conventional and EV Applications
The Vedanta Foundry Alloy has been developed for both conventional and electric vehicles. It combines lightweight properties with higher strength, corrosion resistance, and improved casting performance.
The company already produces automotive alloys used in alloy wheels, cylinder heads, engine components, and other castings. It also supplies specialised billets for HVAC and crash-resistant engineering applications.
PFA Capacity at 380 KTPA
Vedanta Aluminium has an existing PFA production capacity of 380 kilo tonnes per annum. The two new alloys have been added to this product range as the company continues to develop materials for different automotive applications.
Separately, capacity expansion is underway at the BALCO plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh. After completion, primary billet production capacity is expected to reach 1.25 million tonnes per annum.
Local Production for Automotive Sector
Both alloys have been developed and manufactured in India. Their introduction comes amid greater attention on domestic sourcing of materials within the automotive supply chain.
India is the world’s largest market for two-wheelers and three-wheelers and ranks third in passenger and commercial vehicles. The new products add to the range of automotive-grade aluminium materials produced locally.
