TCS Share Price in Focus; Expects 80% of Future Hires to Have Digital and AI Skills

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to increase its focus on digital and artificial intelligence skills while hiring employees, as per news reports. Chief Operating Officer Arathi Subramanian said around 80% of future hires are expected to have these skills.
The company added 4,500 employees in the September quarter. Of these, around 25% to 30% had specialised AI skills, while approximately 80% were hired for new-age capabilities, Subramanian told PTI.
AI Work Accounts for 10% of Revenue
AI-led work contributed 10% of TCS's revenue in the September quarter. Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director K. Krithivasan said a larger volume of AI deals could help improve profit margins, which remain below the company's aspirational levels.
He added that TCS takes a conservative approach when classifying contracts as AI deals, although some element of AI is present in almost all the work the company currently handles.
Experienced Engineers Also Have an Advantage
Krithivasan said the shift towards AI is not limited to fresh graduates. Mid-career professionals willing to learn new skills can benefit from their existing understanding of technology and business domains.
TCS also plans to continue investing in specialised talent, alongside mergers and acquisitions and partnerships, he said.
Customers Expand AI Projects After Initial Results
Subramanian said customers often begin AI projects in a specific business area and expand them to other functions once the effectiveness of the investment becomes clear.
Krithivasan described recent contracts involving Porsche and Best Buy, which included absorbing some client employees into TCS, as opportunities to help those customers transform their businesses and become AI-first.
