Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned a 72.5 MW captive solar project at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan, as per an exchange filing dated August 27, 2026.

The project has been developed for Tata Steel Limited and will supply power through TP Vardhman Surya Limited, a subsidiary of TPREL.

The project is expected to generate 166 million units (MUs) of electricity annually and offset about 118,856 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Solar Modules Supplied by TP Solar

The project uses 171,360 solar modules manufactured by TP Solar Limited. The captive facility has been set up to meet Tata Steel’s renewable energy requirements and forms part of its efforts to reduce emissions from its operations.

TPREL operates across several sectors, including utilities, data centres, communications, IT, petrochemicals, steel, automobiles, FMCG, and biotechnology.

Renewable Utility Capacity at 12.3 GW

With the addition of the Rajasthan project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity stands at 12.3 GW. Around 7 GW of this capacity is operational, including 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind power.

A further 5.3 GW is under implementation. This includes 2.2 GW of solar projects and 3.1 GW of wind capacity, which are expected to be commissioned in phases over the next six to 24 months.

Tata Power’s Wider Capacity

Tata Power has a total operational and under-construction capacity of more than 26 GW. Its clean and green energy portfolio, including projects under construction, accounts for around 17.7 GW.

The company also has 4.9 GW of integrated solar cell and module manufacturing capacity and has signed 2.8 GW of pumped hydro storage projects.
