Amazon is bringing 3,000 electric trucks from Tata Motors into its transportation network in India. The rollout starts in Delhi during the festive season, when online shopping and freight movement typically pick up.

The plan goes beyond city deliveries. The two companies also intend to expand electric trucking along the 2,800-km Delhi–Bengaluru–Chennai corridor, which passes through seven states.

From City Routes to Highways

The first trucks will be Tata Ultra E.7 electric models, handling the movement of shipments between Amazon facilities and across cities. The highway expansion is planned for a later phase, supported by charging hubs being developed with infrastructure provider Yahhvi.

Tata Motors will supply the vehicles, while Amazon’s carrier partners will own and operate them. That means the trucks will run through the existing delivery network rather than being operated directly by Amazon.

Charging and Operating Support

Getting electric trucks onto long-distance routes requires more than the vehicles themselves. Charging access, servicing and day-to-day operating support will also matter as the rollout grows.

Tata Motors says the Ultra E.7 comes with CCS2 fast charging and regenerative braking. Amazon, meanwhile, says it already has more than 15,000 electric vehicles operating across over 500 Indian cities, although this new initiative specifically targets heavier freight movement.

Tata Motors Share Price Performance

As of October 27, 2026, Tata Motors share price was closed at ₹399.20 per share, reflecting a 3.94% surge from previous closing price.

Conclusion

The 3,000-truck plan takes Amazon’s electrification efforts into freight transport, with Delhi as the starting point and a major highway corridor planned next. The scale-up will depend on charging infrastructure and the practical demands of running electric trucks across longer routes.
