Tata Motors has achieved a key manufacturing milestone in its commercial vehicles business with the rollout of the millionth vehicle from its Lucknow manufacturing plant.
The achievement underscores the facility’s growing strategic importance within the company’s commercial vehicle and clean mobility roadmap.
The landmark vehicle rolled out from the plant was a zero-emission electric bus, reflecting Tata Motors’ increasing emphasis on sustainable mobility solutions within its commercial vehicle portfolio.
The milestone vehicle was unveiled in the presence of Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Originally commissioned in 1992, the Lucknow facility has transformed from a conventional assembly unit into a large-scale integrated manufacturing hub which is spread across 600 acres.
The plant now plays a central role in Tata Motors’ transition towards alternative fuel commercial vehicles, producing electric buses, battery-powered trucks, and hydrogen-based vehicle platforms in addition to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.
The facility currently has annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles and manufactures a broad range of commercial vehicles including buses and cargo carriers.
It also serves international markets, exporting vehicles to regions including Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South Africa.
The plant’s evolution aligns with Tata Motors’ broader sustainability strategy, under which the company is targeting net-zero emissions by 2045. The site is fully powered by renewable energy and has achieved water-positive certification.
In addition, Tata Motors has also integrated advanced Industry 4.0 systems at the facility, including Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and automation to improve operational efficiency and manufacturing safety.
