Tata Communications Partners With Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles to Accelerate Software-Defined Vehicle Deployment in India

Tata Communications has partnered with Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) to support the deployment of software-defined vehicles in India. The collaboration will begin with the newly launched Sierra.ev, which will be fitted with in-built 5G cellular connectivity, as per the exchange filing.
The announcement was made on August 25, 2026, through an exchange filing. Tata Communications’ MOVE Connected Vehicle Platform will be integrated with TMPV’s N.IO platform, which underpins the software-defined vehicle architecture.
Connected Services Planned for Sierra.ev
The platform will provide in-vehicle connectivity for services such as content streaming and software updates delivered over the air. Customers will also have the option to purchase additional subscription packs.
Other functions covered under the deployment include emergency calling, remote support, and real-time vehicle diagnostics. The platform will also support the onboarding of customers to connected vehicle services.
Integration of Two Technology Platforms
Under the arrangement, Tata Communications’ platform will work with TMPV’s N.IO system to provide the connectivity layer for the Sierra.ev. The companies said the setup is intended to support connected vehicle functions and future software updates.
The deployment will also support AI-enabled applications and is to allow additional capacity to be introduced through the vehicle’s software platform over time.
Software Updates and Vehicle Features
The connected platform will allow software updates to be sent to the vehicle remotely. Tata Communications said this would support faster over-the-air updates and continuous additions to vehicle features and services.
The companies also referred to services including personalisation and infotainment as part of the connected vehicle offering. The infrastructure will provide the digital connectivity required for these functions.
Sierra.ev Marks Initial Deployment
The Sierra.ev is the first vehicle named under the collaboration. The partnership combines Tata Communications’ connected vehicle technology with TMPV’s software-defined vehicle platform.
TMPV, formerly Tata Motors Ltd, changed its name to Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd from October 13, 2025, following a composite scheme of arrangement.
