Tata Communications and Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) have announced a strategic partnership to help small and medium businesses (SMBs) in India adopt artificial intelligence (AI). The collaboration combines the strengths of both companies to offer a unified AI platform that is simple to deploy, secure, and designed specifically for SMBs.

The initiative aims to make enterprise-grade AI solutions more accessible by reducing the complexity, cost, and technical challenges associated with AI implementation.

Unified AI Platform for India's SMB Economy

TTBS brings its strong presence in the SMB segment through its digital services, cloud solutions, connectivity offerings and wide channel partner network. Tata Communications contributes its AI, cloud and communications expertise, including its Voice AI platform powered by agentic AI.

Together, the companies plan to provide a sovereign AI infrastructure that enables businesses to deploy AI solutions while ensuring data security, scalability and compliance.

AI Voice Agents with Dedicated Business Numbers

As part of the collaboration, the companies showcased AI-powered Voice Agents that come with dedicated fixed-line phone numbers. These virtual assistants can:

  • Answer customer enquiries
  • Schedule appointments and follow-ups
  • Process orders
  • Provide personalised customer support
  • Operate around the clock without human intervention

The solution is designed to improve customer engagement while helping businesses increase operational efficiency.

AI Solutions for Multiple Industries

The platform is expected to support businesses across different sectors.

For example, transport and mobility companies can use AI Voice Agents to help customers book tickets, modify reservations and receive travel updates through natural conversations.

Healthcare providers can use the technology to schedule appointments, share test reports, provide aftercare support and improve communication with patients.

Powered by Tata Communications' AI and Cloud Infrastructure

The solution runs on Tata Communications' conversational AI platform, Commotion, and is hosted on the company's Vayu AI Cloud. The underlying voice connectivity is supported by TTBS, enabling secure and reliable communication.

The integrated platform allows businesses to choose solutions ranging from ready-to-use AI agents to complete AI infrastructure based on their operational requirements.

Management Commentary

Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Communications, said India's AI growth will depend not only on large enterprises but also on enabling millions of SMBs to access advanced digital infrastructure. He added that the partnership combines TTBS' customer reach with Tata Communications' AI, cloud and communications capabilities to deliver secure, scalable and sovereign AI solutions.

Harjit Singh, Managing Director of Tata Teleservices, said India's SMB sector presents a significant opportunity for AI-led transformation. He noted that the collaboration will help businesses improve productivity, enhance customer experiences and unlock new growth opportunities through an integrated AI ecosystem.

Future Expansion Plans

The two companies expect the partnership to expand beyond Voice AI over time. They plan to develop a broader portfolio of AI-powered digital solutions for businesses in India and eventually extend these offerings to SMBs in global markets.
