Sugar stocks were back in focus on Monday (August 24, 2026) after taking a short break on Friday. Bajaj Hindusthan Sugars was one of the biggest gainers, with its shares rising 12.4% on the NSE.

The stock touched an intraday high of ₹26 per share before giving up some of its gains.

Other Sugar Stocks Also Rise

Other sugar companies also saw strong buying during the morning session.

Shree Renuka Sugars rose to levels of ₹27.68, while Dalmia Bharat Sugar & Industries gained up to 4.4%. Triveni Engineering & Industries also moved higher by around 3.5%.

Balrampur Chini Mills and E.I.D Parry Gain

Balrampur Chini Mills and E.I.D Parry (India) also gained during the session.

Their shares rose by more than 3% and 6% at the day's high, reaching around ₹751 and ₹847.5, respectively.

At the same time, the Nifty index was up only 0.12%, showing that sugar stocks were doing much better than the broader market.

Government Allows Sugar Imports

As per news reports, the rally comes even after the government allowed duty-free imports of 1 million metric tonnes of raw sugar.

However, a large part of the imported sugar is expected to arrive only by October 2026. This means supply could remain tight for some time.

Brazil Could Supply Most of the Sugar

Brazil is currently seen as the main option for India's sugar imports.

Thailand, which is also a regular supplier, is facing a shortage of its own and may not be able to supply much sugar to India.

NFCSF President Prakash Naiknavare said that sugar shipments from Brazil usually take around 40-45 days to reach Indian ports. The sugar then needs more time to reach mills.

Conclusion

Sugar stocks rose sharply on Monday, led by Bajaj Hindusthan Sugars. The rally comes at a time when India is trying to increase sugar supplies through duty-free imports, while delays in shipments and weather conditions could keep supply tight in the near term.
