SpiceJet Share Price Hits 10% Upper Circuit as it Inducts 3 Airbus A320 Aircraft

SpiceJet has inducted 3 Airbus A320 aircraft under six-month damp lease agreements, the airline announced on Thursday, as per The Moneycontrol news reports.
All 3 aircraft have arrived in India and are scheduled to begin commercial operations later this week. Their induction follows an agreement signed in June, when the airline confirmed the aircraft would join its fleet during July 2026.
The airline stated that the additional aircraft will be used to increase capacity across its domestic network. It has not disclosed the routes on which the Airbus A320s will be deployed initially.
Lease Arrangement to Add Capacity
Under the damp lease agreements, the lessor provides the aircraft, pilots and maintenance support, while SpiceJet manages the cabin crew and flight operations.
As per the report, Business Officer Debojo Maharshi stated "The induction of these three aircraft is part of our planned capacity expansion. As demand continues to grow, these aircraft will help us add more flights on existing routes, improve connectivity, and support the launch of new services."
Part of Fleet Expansion
SpiceJet also confirmed that it is in advanced discussions with other lessors to induct more aircraft over the coming months. However, it has not shared details regarding the number or type of aircraft being considered.
Earlier this year, the airline's board approved a plan to expand its operational fleet to between 55 and 60 aircraft for the winter schedule through a mix of wet and damp leases, along with the phased return of grounded aircraft.
The airline has also outlined a target of operating more than 300 daily flights and achieving 220 crore available seat kilometres by winter 2026.
Current Fleet and Market Position
The Airbus A320s add another aircraft type to SpiceJet's fleet, which has primarily consisted of Boeing 737 aircraft along with Dash 8 turboprops used for regional operations.
According to aircraft tracking website Planespotters.net, SpiceJet currently has 11 aircraft in active service, comprising nine Boeing 737s and two Dash 8 aircraft.
Separately, data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) showed the airline's domestic passenger market share declined to 1.9% in June from 2.5% in May.
