Sona BLW Precision Forgings Achieves 500 Million Differential Gears Milestone

Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd, also known as Sona Comstar, has announced the achievement of two major manufacturing milestones. The company has successfully produced 500 million differential gears and 10 million differential assemblies since its inception.
Production Milestones in Driveline Components
Sona Comstar designs and manufactures differential assemblies, precision-forged differential gears and other driveline components used in battery electric vehicles (BEVs), passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and off-highway vehicles. The company has established itself as one of the leading global manufacturers of differential assemblies for BEVs.
According to company estimates, Sona Comstar held around 8.7% of the global market share in differential gears in calendar year 2025. This represents significant growth from its estimated 4.5% market share in 2019, reflecting the company’s expanding global presence and stronger relationships with automotive customers.
Growth in Manufacturing Capabilities
The company began production of precision-forged differential gears at its Gurugram plant in 1999. Later, it expanded manufacturing operations with the addition of its Pune facility in 2005. Over the years, Sona Comstar has continued to invest in advanced manufacturing technologies and production capabilities.
The company crossed the milestone of producing 100 million gears in 2013 and reached 200 million gears in early 2018. Production accelerated significantly in the following years, with the next 100 million gears produced within three years. The company then reached the 400 million milestone within the next two and a half years, and the latest 100 million gears were produced in just the last two years.
Expansion of Differential Assemblies Production
Sona Comstar started manufacturing differential assemblies at its Gurugram facility in 2008 and expanded production to Pune in 2014. In 2019, the company added a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Manesar to further strengthen its production capabilities.
The company produced its one-millionth differential assembly in 2017 and reached the five-million mark by 2023. The next five million assemblies were produced in less than three years, highlighting the strong growth in demand for its driveline solutions.
