Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. has started commercial production at its aluminium foil manufacturing facility in Sambalpur, Odisha. The plant is operated by its step-down subsidiary, SMEL Steel Structural Pvt. Ltd.
According to the company's regulatory filing dated July 16, 2026, the facility has an installed production capacity of 18,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) and manufactures aluminium foil in thicknesses ranging from 6 to 40 microns.
Alongside the foil facility, the company is developing an Aluminium Flat Rolled Products (FRP) plant at the same location. Shyam Metalics said the unit is in the final stage of readiness and commercial production is expected to begin by the end of September 2026.
The FRP facility will have an installed capacity of 60,000 TPA and manufacture products with thicknesses between 0.3 mm and 4 mm. The combined investment in the aluminium project is around ₹800 crore.
The new facilities add downstream aluminium products to the company's existing metals business. The aluminium foil unit is already operational, while the FRP plant remains under commissioning.
In its filing, the company said the project is intended to supply value-added aluminium products for domestic and overseas markets. It also stated that the additional manufacturing capacity could reduce reliance on imported products in certain segments.
Shyam Metalics said the aluminium facilities are to improve the share of value-added products in its portfolio. The company has estimated that the project could increase operating margins by 40% to 50%.
It also projected revenue growth of 2 to 2.5 times as production ramps up and sales expand. These are company estimates disclosed as part of the announcement and are not independently verified.
Shyam Metalics has manufacturing operations across West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. The company reported an aggregate installed metal production capacity of 16.78 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and 467 MW of captive power generation capacity.
It was listed on the stock exchanges in 2021 and stated that its market capitalisation exceeds ₹29,000 crore.
