Samvardhana Motherson International Limited disclosed a regulatory update regarding a penalty imposed on its indirect wholly owned subsidiary in the United States.
The development comes amid routine compliance reporting, with the company clarifying the limited financial and operational impact of the matter.
The State of California Franchise Tax Board (SCFTB) has imposed a penalty on Motherson SAS Automotive Services USA Inc., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of the company. The action relates to the income and tax computation return filed for the financial year ended March 31, 2025.
The penalty arose due to the classification of certain sales and/or vendors. Specifically, some sales were categorised as foreign, which affected the calculation of eligible tax for the subsidiary.
The authority has levied a penalty of $28,518 (approximately ₹26.62 lakh) on Motherson SAS.
The company stated that there is no material impact on the financials, operations, or other business activities of either the subsidiary or Samvardhana Motherson International Limited.
SamvardhanaMotherson’s share price showed limited movement following the disclosure. As of 11:24 AM on April 16, 2026, the stock was trading at ₹123.66, up ₹0.11 or 0.09% compared to the previous close of ₹123.55.
The muted reaction indicates that the development has not significantly influenced investor sentiment.

The regulatory update reflects a compliance-related matter at the subsidiary level with minimal financial implications. The stable share price suggests that the market views the development as non-material to the company’s overall performance.
