Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has been awarded the Great Place to Work certification for the period from February 2026 to February 2027. This is the 3rd consecutive year the state-owned steelmaker has received the certification, as confirmed by the Ministry of Steel.
The certification was granted following an evaluation carried out by the Great Place to Work Institute of India. The assessment covers employee feedback and internal workplace practices, and is used as a standard measure of organisational culture across sectors.
The Great Place to Work certification is based largely on employee surveys, along with a review of company policies and processes. One of the key measures is the Trust Index score, which captures employee responses on credibility of management, fairness at work, respect, pride in the organisation, and relationships among colleagues.
According to the Ministry of Steel, SAIL recorded an increase in its Trust Index score during the latest assessment cycle. This suggests a higher proportion of employees gave positive feedback compared with earlier years.
Over the past few years, SAIL has made changes to its human resource systems. One of the recent steps is the introduction of SAIL DARPAN, a performance management framework. The system is intended to bring consistency to performance reviews and target-setting across departments, with a focus on clearer benchmarks and accountability.
The company has also expanded training options for executives. This includes allowing officers to shift functional domains through structured learning programmes. These programmes are supported through memoranda of understanding with several management institutes.
SAIL has partnered with Indian Institutes of Management in Kozhikode, Bangalore, Jammu, Raipur, and Ranchi.
It has also tied up with XLRI and the Administrative Staff College of India. The training programmes mainly cover areas such as marketing and human resources, and are aimed at building capability outside traditional operational roles.
SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash said the certification reflects the trust employees place in the organisation and the systems being followed. He said the recognition was the result of collective efforts across the company.

With the certification valid until February 2027, SAIL remains among the public sector companies that have secured the Great Place to Work recognition for three successive years, based on employee feedback and workplace evaluations.
