
Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) announced that its joint venture with GPT has emerged as the lowest bidder for a Northern Railway project involving the construction of a new rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga river.
The project includes bridge construction, approach works and associated electrical installations, and forms part of RVNL’s regular business operations.
RVNL informed that the RVNL-GPT joint venture has been declared the Lowest Bidder (L1) by Northern Railway for the design and construction of a new rail-cum-road bridge near Kashi Railway Station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
The project is positioned downstream of the existing Malviya Bridge.
The proposed bridge will include substructure and superstructure works, featuring open web steel girders across multiple spans. The design provides for four railway tracks on the lower deck and a six-lane roadway on the upper deck.
The contract also includes railway and road approach works in line with approved design specifications.
In addition to civil construction, the project scope covers associated overhead electrification (OHE) works and general electrical installations within the Lucknow Division of Northern Railway.
These elements form part of the integrated infrastructure package awarded under the tender.
RVNL stated that the awarded project is in the normal course of its business operations. Further contractual and financial details of the bid have been provided separately in an annexed document submitted to exchanges.
RVNL shares were last recorded at ₹333.85 on 29 January 2026, reflecting a decline of 2.53% from the previous close. During the session, the stock traded between ₹332.10 and ₹352.80.

The selection of RVNL-GPT JV as the lowest bidder for the Varanasi rail-cum-road bridge project adds to RVNL’s infrastructure project portfolio. The contract covers bridge construction and related electrical works, with further progress dependent on final award procedures and execution timelines.
