Rain Industries Limited has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Rain Carbon Germany GmbH, has partnered in a German funded research initiative focused on environmentally friendly graphite extraction for Europe’s battery sector. The disclosure was made on February 2, 2026.
The USE G programme, titled Environmentally Friendly and Safe Graphite Extraction for Europe’s Battery Industry, is a 3-year research and development initiative scheduled from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2029.
The total project budget is €1.70 million, with €1.14 million contributed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The initiative focuses on developing cleaner and less energy intensive graphite processing technologies within Europe.
The programme includes Rain Carbon Germany GmbH, Northern Graphite Corporation, H.C. Starck Tungsten GmbH and Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
Northern Graphite will supply natural graphite from its producing mine in Canada and its Namibia mine under care and maintenance. It will also conduct milling, shaping and battery testing at its German laboratory.

H.C. Starck Tungsten will provide technology to recover graphite from lithium ion battery black mass, enabling reuse within the supply chain.
Friedrich Schiller University Jena will lead the development of a chlorine gas based purification method designed to reduce reliance on hydrofluoric acid and lower energy consumption.
Rain Carbon Germany GmbH will develop sustainable carbon coating materials and related processes to enhance graphite anode performance while reducing environmental impact.
The programme will also assess the processing of natural and recycled graphite separately before evaluating blended anode materials.
As of February 02, 2026, at 12:56 PM, Rain Industries share price on NSE was trading at ₹152.20 down by 2.09% from the previous closing price.
The USE G programme outlines a coordinated effort carried out within Germany to establish a complete graphite processing flow covering purification, coating, shaping, recycling and testing. Rain Industries’ participation reflects its role in carbon material development for battery related applications.
