PTC Industries Limited has secured its first design and development order from the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), a laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), as per the exchange filings.
The order is for the design, development and supply of a Titanium Cradle for the 105mm Indian Light Weight Tank, marking the company's expansion beyond its traditional build-to-print manufacturing model.
The contract requires PTC Industries to undertake the complete engineering design, development, validation, manufacturing, and supply of the mission-critical component.
This is the first time the company will be responsible for the entire engineering lifecycle of a defence component instead of only manufacturing it.
The project will be executed over two-and-a-half years.
The financial value has not been disclosed due to strategic and confidentiality considerations. The company added that the order has been awarded by a domestic entity and is not a related-party transaction.
The Titanium Cradle is a critical structural component being developed for the Indian Light Weight Tank programme led by ARDE.
It supports the main gun barrel and breech, provides attachment points for the recoil mechanism and recuperator, and transfers firing and recoil forces safely to the turret structure.
The company said the order strengthens its PTC ONE – From Melt to Mission integrated manufacturing platform by adding design-led development to its capabilities in titanium materials, precision manufacturing and mission-critical component production.
It also believes the project could create opportunities to design and manufacture lightweight titanium components for tanks, artillery systems, and other land defence platforms.
Sachin Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, PTC Industries, called the order "an important milestone" and said titanium alloys will play a growing role in lightweighting land defence platforms.
The company added that titanium components enhance mobility, performance, and durability while offering high strength, fatigue, and corrosion resistance, especially in high-altitude conditions.
