Oracle Starts Fresh Layoffs After 21,000 Employee Workforce Reduction in Fiscal Year 2026

Oracle has begun another round of layoffs, with the latest cuts starting on September 14, 2026, as per a Business Insider news report.
In some cases, US employees reportedly found that their access to Oracle's systems had been removed before they received an email about their jobs. The company has not disclosed anything as of now.
More Than 10% Cut in Some Teams
As per the report, the scale of the cuts varies across Oracle's teams. An internal document showed that some teams were facing reductions of more than 10%.
Reports from employees who said they had been affected began appearing on platforms like LinkedIn, Reddit and Blind on Monday. The affected staff were told that their positions had been removed as part of an organisational change.
Reports suggest that September 14, 2026, was given as the final working day for employees covered by the latest cuts. Documents reviewed by Business Insider showed the severance terms offered to US employees.
Workforce Was Already Reduced
Oracle entered the latest round with a smaller workforce than it had a year earlier. Its filings showed that employee numbers fell by about 21,000, or 13%, during the fiscal year ended May 31, 2026.
The company had around 1,41,000 employees before the September layoffs. The latest reduction follows that earlier fall in headcount.
Spending on Data Centres
The job cuts come while Oracle is committing large sums to AI and data-centre infrastructure. First-quarter capital expenditure rose to $28.5 billion from $8.5 billion a year earlier. Oracle's fiscal 2027 capital expenditure forecast remains $90 billion to $95 billion.

Conclusion
Oracle has not given a figure for the latest layoffs. The cuts follow a 13% fall in headcount last fiscal year, as the company continues with its planned data-centre spending.
