On August 12, 2026, National Aluminium Company (NALCO) and Hindalco shares experienced an increase, driven by rising global aluminium prices, as operational disruptions impacted a major Brazilian facility and Middle East tensions affected supply, as per news report.

Global Aluminium Price Surge

On August 12, 2026, NALCO shares rose 8% to ₹418.95, and Hindalco increased 2.7% to ₹1,080.60 following a surge in global aluminium prices.

This was influenced by Norsk Hydro’s Alunorte facility in Brazil, the world's largest alumina refinery, cutting output to 50% following its natural gas supplier CELBA reporting an unexpected disruption.

Impact of Geopolitical Tensions

The Middle East, which contributes about 10% to the global aluminium supply, experienced disruptions affecting physical metal shipments due to ongoing regional conflicts.

Despite a temporary decline in metal prices, the conflict has caused aluminium prices to rebound since late June.

Decline in Aluminium Inventories

There has been a steady drawdown of aluminium stockpiles held in London Metal Exchange warehouses, pushing inventories to their lowest level since November 1990. This decrease in supply, along with the ongoing geopolitical tensions, has influenced the current price dynamics.

Supply Challenges and Market Dynamics

Predictions state that a global annual supply shortfall could exceed 9,00,000 tons if trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz remain disrupted.

The currently stalled Middle East peace negotiations have added to the supply chain bottlenecks, thus prolonging the tight market conditions.

National Aluminium Share Price Performance

As of August 12, 2026, at 1:48 PM, National Aluminium share price on NSE was trading at ₹416.90, up by 7.45% from the previous closing price.

Hindalco Industries Share Price Performance

As of August 12, 2026, at 1:49 PM, Hindalco Industries share price on NSE was trading at ₹1,079.25, up by 2.87% from the previous closing price.

Conclusion

On August 12, 2026, NALCO and Hindalco shares reflected a rise in the backdrop of increased global aluminium prices. With NALCO surging 8% to ₹418.95 and Hindalco gaining 2.7% to ₹1,080.60, disruptions in Brazil and the Middle East were key factors. The reduction of inventories and strained supply chains were pivotal in this market response.
