Embraer and Mahindra Group have unveiled plans to develop Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities in India for the C-390 Millennium aircraft, subject to its selection in the Indian Air Force's Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program.
On February 19, 2026, Embraer and Mahindra Group announced their intent to establish an MRO facility in India for the C-390 Millennium multi-mission transport aircraft.
This follows their October 2025 strategic partnership to manufacture the aircraft locally under the 'Make in India' initiative.
The proposed MRO facility will provide comprehensive in-country maintenance, including base/heavy maintenance, structural inspections, component overhauls, avionics support, and training. It aims to ensure high operational readiness for the Indian Air Force.
The C-390 Millennium is a modern medium-transport aircraft with a 26-ton payload capacity, superior speed/range, and versatility for missions like cargo transport, medical evacuation, and firefighting. It operates from unpaved runways and supports air-to-air refueling.
The aircraft boasts a 99% mission completion rate, demonstrating reliability. Ten countries, including Brazil and South Korea, have already selected it for their air forces.
The MRO initiative will drive higher localization of C-390 components through collaboration with Indian aerospace companies. This aligns with the government's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' vision, fostering domestic manufacturing and skilled employment.
Embraer aims to integrate Indian firms into its global supply chain, creating high-skill jobs and potentially positioning India as a regional MRO hub for future C-390 operators.

Embraer currently operates nearly 50 aircraft across 11 types in India, including defense platforms like the ERJ145-based 'Netra' AEW&C aircraft and Legacy 600 transports used by the Indian Air Force and Border Security Force.
As of February 19, 2026, at 2:25 PM, Mahindra & Mahindra share price on NSE was trading at ₹3,460.70 down by 1.98% from the previous closing price.
The planned C-390 Millennium MRO facility underscores Embraer and Mahindra Group's commitment to India's aerospace localization goals. Contingent on the aircraft's selection in the IAF's MTA program, this initiative promises enhanced operational support, domestic manufacturing growth, and strategic supply chain integration under the 'Make in India' framework.
