Kotak Mahindra Bank has received the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) approval to acquire Deutsche Bank AG's retail banking, private banking and wealth management businesses in India.

The bank informed the stock exchanges about the development on November 3, 2026. The CCI issued its approval letter on the same date.

Deal Signed in June 2026

The proposed acquisition was first disclosed on June 30, 2026, when Kotak Mahindra Bank informed the exchanges about signing a business transfer agreement with Deutsche Bank AG, acting through its India branch.

The agreement covers the transfer of Deutsche Bank's retail banking, private banking and wealth management businesses in India. The transfer is structured as a slump sale, under which the business undertaking will be acquired as a going concern.

Transfer Yet to Be Completed

The CCI's approval is not the final step in the process. The acquisition will go ahead once both banks fulfil the conditions set out in the business transfer agreement and receive any remaining approvals from statutory and regulatory authorities.

Kotak Mahindra Bank confirmed this in its filing. The bank has not announced a date for completing the transfer. Its disclosure also does not mention the value of the transaction or the number of customers and accounts covered by the deal.
