The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is to introduce its redesigned ticket booking website today (July 15, 2026), as per news reports.
The updated portal has been developed to improve the online reservation system after passengers reported delays, failed transactions, and slow performance during peak booking periods, particularly for Tatkal tickets.
The revised platform has been built to process more than 1.5 lakh ticket bookings every minute, compared with around 32,000 bookings per minute on the existing website.
The Passenger Reservation System (PRS), which manages ticket searches and reservations, has also been upgraded to handle over 40 lakh enquiries per minute, against the current capacity of around 4 lakh enquiries.
The upgraded website introduces a number of changes to the booking process. Passengers will be able to select their preferred seat or berth while making a reservation.
A fare calendar has also been added to help users compare ticket fares across different travel dates before confirming a booking.
The platform will also display seat availability for Sleeper and all AC classes on a single page, replacing the existing system where each class has to be checked separately.
The redesigned portal includes a simplified interface with fewer steps during the booking process. Payment options, including IRCTC iPay and UPI, have been integrated into the reservation flow.
The website will support multiple Indian languages and bring concession booking facilities for students, Divyangjan and patients under one system.
CAPTCHA verification for regular bookings is also likely to be removed, while security checks will continue through the upgraded backend.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the website upgrade during a programme in Rajasthan last month (June 2026) after passengers, including students, highlighted difficulties in booking train tickets through the existing portal.

As of July 15, 2026, 2:02 pm, IRCTC share price was trading at ₹501.85, up 0.99% from the previous closing price.
The redesigned IRCTC website is expected to increase booking capacity and add new reservation features to the online ticketing platform. The revised system will be available after its official rollout by Indian Railways.
