Hindalco Share Price in Focus; Commissions India’s First Superfine PPT ATH Plant

Hindalco Industries has started production at a new specialty alumina plant in Belagavi, Karnataka, bringing domestic manufacturing of Superfine Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate (PPT ATH) to India for the first time, as per the exchage filing. The facility can produce 30,000 tonnes a year in its first phase.
The material is used in products where fire protection is important, including cables, polymer insulators, and thermal insulation.
Plant Can Expand to 60,000 Tonnes
Hindalco said the first phase is designed to meet almost the entire domestic requirement for PPT ATH used in safer cable applications. The plant can later be expanded to 60,000 tonnes per year as demand increases.
PPT ATH is a halogen-free flame-retardant material used in HFFR cables, composites, and paints. In cable applications, it helps limit flame spread and smoke without releasing halogen acid gases.
Production Runs on Renewable Energy
The Belagavi facility is powered entirely by biomass, solar, and wind energy. Hindalco said its Belagavi refinery recorded a GHG intensity of 0.44 tCO2e per tonne of alumina in YTD FY26.
The company developed the technology and R&D for the plant internally. Automated controls have also been installed to maintain feedstock quality and product consistency.
Management on the New Product
Satish Pai, Managing Director of Hindalco Industries, said the plant strengthens the company's specialty alumina portfolio and supports its move towards higher-value products.
Saurabh Khedekar, CEO of the Alumina Business, said Hindalco is India's first manufacturer of Superfine Precipitated Hydrate and that the product can help reduce import dependence.
